How to Draw and Erase Marks with Colored Chalk

Drawing on Blocks

Hold a piece of colored chalk in your main hand and right-click the face of a block you want to mark. A colored line or mark appears on that surface. Each chalk color draws in its own shade, letting you color-code paths, zones, or notes across your world. You can place marks on most solid block faces, including walls, floors, and ceilings.

Switching and Erasing

To change color, simply switch to a different chalk in your hotbar and continue drawing. To remove a mark, use the erasing method provided by the base Chalk mod (commonly a sponge or the mod's dedicated eraser item) on the marked surface. Erasing clears the chalk mark without breaking the block underneath.

Organizing Your Marks

  • Use one color per purpose: for example, red for danger zones, green for safe paths, blue for water routes.
  • Draw arrows and simple shapes rather than words, since chalk marks are small.
  • Combine colors on the same wall to build a legend near a base entrance.
  • Re-mark frequently traveled routes so visitors can follow them without asking for directions.
  • Remember marks are cosmetic overlays, so they will not stop mobs or players from walking through.
