How to Place a Torch on the Ceiling (Upside Down)
The Basic Placement
Placing a torch on the ceiling works almost exactly like placing one on a wall, just aimed upward. Hold a torch (or soul torch) in your hand, look straight up at the underside of a solid block, and use the place button. The torch attaches to the bottom face of that block and hangs downward, flame pointing at the floor.
If nothing happens, check these common causes:
- You are aiming at a block face that is not the underside. Look more directly upward.
- The block above you is not a valid attachment surface (some transparent or non-solid blocks will not hold a torch).
- You are too far away. Step closer so the placement outline appears on the ceiling block.
Placement Tips
- You can place torches on the ceiling of a two-block-high room, but the flame sits low. For headroom, use taller rooms or place ceiling torches over walkways and doorways.
- Ceiling torches still emit the same light level as a normal torch, so spacing them out follows the same rules you already use for floor and wall torches.
- To remove one, break it like any torch. It will drop as an item and can be picked up and reused.
- If you want to convert an existing floor torch to a ceiling one, just break it and re-place it while looking up.
