Caxton Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I change the font in Minecraft with Caxton?
Put a Caxton-format font resource pack in your resourcepacks folder, then enable it in Options > Resource Packs. Caxton detects the pack and replaces the standard font with the one defined in that pack's properties.
I installed Caxton but my font didn't change. Why?
The mod doesn't ship a font of its own. It only swaps fonts when an enabled resource pack is in the format it recognizes. Check that the pack is in the active list and that it is a Caxton-style font pack, not just an ordinary texture pack.
Why does the game freeze or lag the first time I load a Caxton font?
Caxton has to generate MTSDF data from the font, which is expensive. It runs this work in parallel and caches the results. Wait out the first load, and later launches with the same font should be much quicker.
Will the stall happen every time I start the game?
No, it's mainly a first-generation cost. Once the font's data is cached, Caxton reuses it. A font it hasn't seen before will need to be generated once.
Text has weird outlines when using Caxton with Sodium. How do I fix it?
This is a known issue with one older Caxton and Sodium pairing, not a general incompatibility. Update both Caxton and Sodium to current releases, and the outlined text should go away.
Text is glitchy or in the wrong order with ImmediatelyFast. What setting should I change?
Open ImmediatelyFast's config and disable the sortTextRenderLayers option, then restart the game. Recent ImmediatelyFast versions need this off to render Caxton text properly.
Arabic text shows up broken or disconnected. How do I fix it?
Caxton can't yet do Arabic shaping in legacy fonts. Switch to a font that has real Arabic support and load it through Caxton, which handles complex text rendering.
Why is my text aligned left in some menus even for right-to-left languages?
Some UI elements assume simple left-to-right text rendering. Because of that, GUI text may align left regardless of the text direction. This is a current limitation of Caxton rather than a problem with your font or pack.
Does Caxton support bold and italic, and will text stay sharp when scaled?
Yes. It supports real bold and italic fonts instead of faking them. Its MSDF technology also keeps text crisp at any size, so it doesn't turn blurry when scaled up.
My font looks slightly different from how it does in other programs. Is something wrong?
Probably not. Caxton doesn't support font hinting, so glyph shapes at small sizes can look different from a hinted desktop render. It also doesn't use AWT, which is part of why its rendering differs from typical Java text.
