Cave Spider Spawn Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I make cave spiders spawn naturally in my world?
Just install the mod and they will start spawning in underground caves automatically. By default there is a 15% chance that a spider spawn becomes a cave spider, so you don't need to change anything to get started.
Why aren't any cave spiders spawning in my caves?
Check that you are actually underground and that the light level and space requirements for hostile mob spawning are met. Also confirm you haven't set the Y-level limit in the config to a value that excludes your current depth.
How do I limit cave spiders to spawn only below a certain Y level?
Open the config file and enable the Y-level restriction option, then set the Y value you want. For example, setting it below y=0 restricts them to deepslate depths, and this is disabled by default.
How do I change how often spiders turn into cave spiders?
Edit the chanceSpiderIsCaveSpider value in the config file. It defaults to 0.15, with a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 1.0, so raising it makes cave spiders more common and lowering it makes them rarer.
What does chanceSpiderIsCaveSpider actually do?
It controls the probability that a spider which spawns is a cave spider instead of a normal spider. The default is 0.15, meaning roughly 15% of spider spawns become cave spiders.
Can I turn cave spider natural spawning off completely?
Yes, set chanceSpiderIsCaveSpider to 0 in the config. That prevents naturally spawned spiders from becoming cave spiders, leaving only the vanilla mob-spawner cave spiders.
Do cave spiders still spawn from dungeon spawners with this mod?
Yes, the mod only adds natural spawning and does not remove the vanilla spawner behavior. Dungeon spawners will still produce cave spiders as they always did.
Does this mod work with other mob or spawn mods?
It generally works alongside other spawn-related mods since it only adjusts spider spawn results, but overlapping spawn overhauls can conflict. If spawns behave oddly, test with other spawn mods disabled to isolate the cause.
Will this mod hurt my game's performance?
No, it only changes what a spider spawns as and does not add new mobs or heavy logic. Performance impact is negligible, though more cave spiders in caves can mean more mobs fighting you at once.
How do I survive caves after installing this mod?
Bring milk to cure poison, keep a light source and a shield, and avoid fighting cave spiders in tight tunnels where they can swarm you. Blocking off side passages and fighting in open areas makes their poison much less deadly.
