Cave Dust Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Why don't I see any dust particles in my cave?
Cave Dust only spawns particles in Overworld caves that are dark enough and below a certain height, so a brightly lit or shallow cave won't show anything. Try going deeper and letting the area stay unlit, then wait a moment for particles to fade in.
Do the dust particles show up in lush caves?
No. Lush caves are deliberately excluded, so you'll only see the white ash-style dust in other Overworld cave types. If you're standing in a lush cave, the lack of particles is intended behavior.
How do I turn the dust off completely?
The mod is client-side and aesthetic, so you can disable it through your mod menu's config screen or by removing it from your client. Check the mod's config options for a toggle or density setting before uninstalling.
Can I make the dust less thick without removing the mod?
Yes, the config typically exposes a density or amount option you can lower so particles are subtler. Adjust it in the mod's config and reload the world to see the change.
Does Cave Dust work on a server, or do I need it installed on both sides?
It's a client-side visual mod, so you can use it on servers that don't have it installed. Other players won't see your dust, and you don't need it on the server for it to work for you.
Will Cave Dust hurt my FPS in big caves?
Particles are lightweight, but very large open caves with lots of active particle spawns can add some load. If you notice a drop, lower the density in the config or reduce your particle settings in vanilla video options.
Does Cave Dust conflict with shaders or other particle mods?
It generally coexists with shaders since it uses standard particles, but some shader packs or particle-replacing mods may hide or override them. If dust disappears with shaders on, test without the shader pack to confirm the cause.
Why do particles only appear in some caves and not others?
Spawning depends on cave conditions like light level, depth, and biome, so well-lit or shallow areas stay clear. Lush caves are always excluded, and caves above the mod's height threshold won't show dust either.
Can I change the dust color or make it look like something other than white ash?
The mod reuses the basalt delta ash particle, so its look is fixed to that white ash appearance by default. Any color or texture changes would require a resource pack that overrides that particle texture.
Is Cave Dust compatible with other cave and world-generation mods?
Yes, it only adds particles and doesn't change world generation, so it works alongside cave and biome mods. The main exception is lush caves, which stay dust-free by design.
