Cartographer Zone Painter Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the zone painter tool?
Open Xaero's Minimap or World Map and look for the zone painter button in the map interface. Once clicked, you'll enter drawing mode where you can create and edit zones.
Can I use this mod on multiplayer servers?
Yes, the mod works entirely client-side, so you can paint zones on any server without needing the server to have any plugins installed. Your zones are only visible to you.
Do my zones save automatically?
Yes, zones are saved automatically per world and per dimension. When you load that world again, all your marked areas will still be there.
Can I change a zone's color after I've created it?
Yes, you can rename zones and change their colors anytime by accessing the zone settings in the map interface.
What's the difference between chunk mode and other drawing modes?
Chunk mode lets you select and paint entire chunks at once as individual units, making it faster to mark large areas compared to painting block-by-block.
Can I remove specific chunks from a zone without deleting the whole thing?
Yes, you can add or remove individual chunks from any saved zone at any time, giving you full control over zone boundaries.
Will zones from one world appear in another world?
No, zones are saved separately for each world and each dimension, so your Nether zones won't show up in the Overworld or in other worlds.
Do I need Xaero's Minimap and World Map for this to work?
Yes, this mod is an add-on for Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map, so you need at least one of those installed to use the zone painter.
Can multiple players see the same zones I draw on a server?
No, zones are client-side only, so other players won't see your marked areas unless they draw the same zones themselves.
What should I use different colors for?
You can organize zones by purpose—use one color for bases, another for roads, another for farms, and another for danger areas to keep your map visually organized.
