How to configure a plugin and apply changes on a Cardboard server

Plugins running on Cardboard keep their settings in the usual place, so you configure them like on any Bukkit-style server.

Find and edit the config

1. Start the server once with the plugin installed so it generates its files.

2. Stop the server.

3. Open plugins, then the folder named after the plugin. Look for files such as config.yml, or message and language files.

4. Edit them with a plain text editor. YAML is sensitive to spacing, so use spaces (not tabs) and keep the indentation exactly as it was.

5. Save the file and start the server.

Apply changes safely

  • A full restart is the most reliable way to apply changes. Plugins that run on Cardboard may not behave well after a live reload, so avoid /reload unless the plugin's own documentation says it is safe.
  • Many plugins ship their own reload command. Use that only if the plugin documents it.
  • If the server prints a YAML error on startup, you most likely have an indentation or quote mistake. Undo your last change and try again.

Permissions

  • Make yourself an operator with op <yourname> in the console so you can test commands.
  • Plugin commands are usually gated by permission nodes listed on the plugin's page. Use a permissions plugin that works on your setup to hand those out to regular players, and test with a non-op account.
