How to Find and Edit a Mod's Config File Using Carbon Config

Carbon Config replaces the usual flat .toml or .json config screens with its own structured interface, so the first thing to understand is that you usually do not edit the file by hand.

Opening the Config Screen

Most mods that depend on Carbon Config register a config button in the Mods list. Open the mod list from the main menu or pause screen, find the mod whose settings you want to change, and click its config button. If the mod author wired it up, a Carbon Config screen opens instead of the vanilla one. From here you can browse categories on the left and individual options on the right.

Understanding Compounds and Values

Instead of showing you a raw text string, Carbon Config groups related settings into Compounds — nested sections that hold several values together. Expand a compound to reveal its entries. Each entry shows a friendly name, the current value, and often a tooltip explaining what it does. Suggestions appear as default values you can click to restore.

Saving Your Changes

Edit the values you want, then confirm or save. Carbon Config writes the file for you in the mod's config folder. If a setting is server-sided, the screen may tell you it is controlled by the server rather than your client — see the multiplayer guide for that case. Restart or reload if the mod requires it.
