Carbon Config Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the Carbon Config menu in-game?
Carbon Config adds an entry to the mod list screen: open the mods menu, find the mod whose config you want to change, and click its config button to open the Carbon Config editor. From there you can browse compounds and edit values directly without leaving the game.
Where are Carbon Config files stored?
They live in the config folder of your instance, usually inside a subfolder named after the mod or after Carbon Config itself. Server-side configs are stored in the world's serverconfig folder so each world can have its own values.
What are compounds in Carbon Config?
Compounds are grouped, structured sections of settings rather than one long flat list of raw text entries. They let you expand and collapse related options, so a mod's config is organized into categories you can navigate instead of scrolling through strings.
What do the suggestions in Carbon Config do?
Suggestions show the default or recommended value for a setting and let you apply it with one click. If you are unsure what a value should be, use the suggestion instead of typing something arbitrary.
Can I edit server configs as a normal player on a multiplayer server?
Yes, Carbon Config allows editing of server-sided configurations rather than restricting you to server-only files. Whether your changes actually take effect depends on the server accepting and syncing them, so check with the server operator if a setting seems ignored.
How do client-to-server configs work in multiplayer?
Each player can keep their own values for settings that are marked as client-to-server, so your preferences do not overwrite another player's. The server receives your values and applies them for your connection where the mod supports it.
I changed a setting but nothing happened. What should I check?
Make sure you saved the change and, if the mod requires it, restarted the game or reloaded the world, since many configs are only read at startup. Also confirm you edited the right file: singleplayer worlds use serverconfig, while general mod options live in the config folder.
How do I reset a config back to its default values?
Open the setting in the Carbon Config editor and use the suggestion or default value it offers, then save. If you want to reset everything, deleting the mod's config file and letting the game regenerate it restores all defaults.
Does Carbon Config work with other mods' configs?
Carbon Config is a framework that mods opt into, so it only manages configs for mods that use it. Other mods keep their own config systems, and you edit those through their own menus or files.
Will Carbon Config hurt my performance or cause crashes?
It is a lightweight configuration library, so it has negligible impact during normal play since values are read rather than constantly recalculated. Crashes are more likely to come from an invalid value you entered than from the framework itself, so revert recent edits if the game fails to start.
