How to Change Server-Sided Settings as a Player in Multiplayer

One of Carbon Config's headline features is that it is not limited to "server-only" configs — it supports editing server-sided configuration and lets each player keep their own client-to-server settings. Here is how that plays out in practice.

Server-Controlled Options

When you open a config screen on a multiplayer server, some entries are marked as server-sided. These are owned by the server, not by you. You can view them, but changing them locally will not affect the server's behavior — the server sends its values to your client. If you need one of these changed, it has to be done on the server side by whoever runs it.

Your Own Client-to-Server Settings

Other options are per-player. Carbon Config lets each player maintain their own values for these, and the mod syncs them to the server so the server knows your preferences. Open the config screen, adjust the per-player entries, and save. Your choices are stored locally and sent when you connect.

If a Setting Won't Stick

If an option reverts after you save, it is almost certainly server-controlled. Check the tooltip or the compound header for a server/client indicator. Per-player settings persist across sessions; server settings do not, because they are not yours to keep.
