How to Find and Tame Your First Capybara

Locating Capybaras

Capybaras spawn rarely in Jungle biomes, typically in small groups of 1–4. You'll need to explore jungle terrain thoroughly; they don't spawn frequently, so patience is required. Listen for ambient sounds and watch for movement among the foliage.

Taming a Capybara

Once you've found a Capybara, you need food to tame it. Capybaras accept:

  • Melons (full blocks)
  • Melon Slices
  • Sugar Cane
  • Apples

Hold one of these items and right-click on the Capybara repeatedly until it's tamed. You'll see a visual indicator (typically hearts or a collar) when the taming is successful.

After Taming

Your tamed Capybara will follow you around. To control it, hold a stick in your hand—this allows you to make the Capybara sit (stand still) or stand (follow you again) by right-clicking. A sitting Capybara won't wander away, making it safe to leave temporarily while you gather resources nearby.
