Canyons and Cliffs and Biomes Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to start a new world to use this mod?
Yes, you need to create a new world for the mod's world generation changes to take effect. Applying it to an existing world will only generate the new terrain in chunks you haven't explored yet, creating mismatched landscapes at the borders.
What's the best way to find caves in this mod?
Look for cave entrances on cliff faces and canyon walls, which are now much more dramatic and visible. You can also mine downward through exposed stone layers in mountains and canyons, but caves spawn less frequently so exploration takes patience.
How do I build a base on these massive mountains without it falling apart?
Scout your mountain thoroughly before building—the terrain is steeper and more unstable than vanilla. Use the natural cliff faces and overhangs as structural anchors, and consider building into the mountain rather than on top of it for better stability.
Are rivers actually useful for travel now?
Yes, the wider rivers make water travel much more practical for long distances. You can use boats effectively and the increased width means fewer obstacles, though you'll still encounter waterfalls at elevation changes.
Do I need different mining strategies for canyons?
Canyons expose more ore veins on their walls, so strip mining the canyon sides is very efficient. Be cautious of cave systems that open into canyons, as you may fall into larger caverns than expected.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod changes world generation rather than adding constant entities or blocks, so performance impact is minimal on most systems. Larger caves and biomes may require slightly more rendering in some areas, but it's generally well-optimized.
Can I use this mod with other world generation mods?
This mod significantly overhauls terrain generation, so combining it with other world gen mods often causes conflicts or unpredictable results. Check compatibility notes for specific mods you want to pair with it.
What should I bring when exploring the new cave systems?
Bring extra torches, food, and water since caves are much larger and you'll be underground longer. The height expansion means you might descend very far, so bring blocks for climbing back up and consider a pickaxe for mining through cave walls.
Why do some of my old biomes look cut off or weird at the edges?
This happens when old chunks meet new ones generated by the mod. The mod creates larger, cleaner biomes, so the transition between pre-mod and post-mod terrain can look jarring—this is why a fresh world is recommended.
How high can I actually build before running into the world limit?
The mod extends the build limit to Y 1664, giving you much more vertical space than vanilla. However, practical building becomes difficult above Y 256 due to reduced oxygen and increased difficulty, so plan accordingly.
