How to Enable and Use Freecam in Camera Utils

Freecam detaches your view from your character so you can fly the camera around while your body stays put. This is the mod's headline feature and the one most players install it for.

Turning it on

Open the Camera Utils settings through the mod's keybind menu or config screen and make sure the freecam toggle is bound to a key you can reach comfortably. In-game, press that key and your perspective will detach — you can now move the camera freely with your normal movement keys, and look around with the mouse. Your player model stays where it was, and the world keeps running around you.

Things to know while flying

  • Your body is still vulnerable. Mobs can hit you, you can fall if you were mid-air, and you can drown. Freecam is a camera, not a teleport.
  • Press the toggle again (or the dedicated exit key) to snap your view back to your character.
  • Some servers treat freecam as cheating because it lets you see through walls or scout terrain. Check the rules before using it on multiplayer.
  • If the camera feels too fast or too slow, adjust the freecam movement speed in the config rather than fighting it with sprint keys.

If freecam does nothing when you press the key, another mod is likely already using that bind — rebind one of them.
