How to Detach the Camera from Your Body (Third-Person and Detached Views)

Beyond freecam, Camera Utils lets you pull the camera away from the first-person eyeball position, which is useful for recording, screenshots, and checking your own character model.

Switching perspectives

Use the mod's perspective controls to cycle between first-person, a detached third-person view, and freecam. The detached view orbits or trails your character without fully freeing the camera, so you keep your body in frame while still seeing more of the world. This is the mode to use when you want a cinematic shot but still need to play normally.

Practical uses

  • Recording: park the camera at an angle and walk your character through the shot.
  • Building: pull back to judge proportions of a structure without climbing a tower.
  • Screenshots: frame your character against scenery for thumbnails or profile pictures.
  • Debugging: check whether your player model is clipping into blocks or wearing the right armor.

Caveats

Detached and freecam views do not change where your character actually is, so interaction range, mining, and combat still happen from your body's position. If you try to hit a block while the camera is far away, you will swing at air. Return to first-person for normal play.
