How to reduce lag and memory problems in a big modpack with BugTorched

BugTorched includes optimizations for things like chunk loading and memory leaks. They matter most in long play sessions with heavy modpacks.

Make sure the optimizations are active

1. Open the BugTorched config file(s) in your config folder with the game closed.

2. Look at the performance-related categories, which cover chunk handling, memory and leak fixes.

3. Leave the optimization options enabled unless you are testing a specific problem. If you disabled any earlier while troubleshooting, turn them back on.

Check whether it helps

1. Play for a longer session than usual, especially one that involves travelling or loading lots of chunks.

2. Watch the memory graph on the F3 debug screen. A healthy game shows memory rising and dropping back after garbage collection. If the baseline keeps climbing, something is still leaking.

3. If lag appears only near a particular machine, spawner or modded structure, the cause is probably that mod rather than chunk loading.

Other advice

  • Give the game a reasonable amount of RAM in your launcher. Too much can cause long garbage-collection pauses.
  • Change one config option at a time so you know what made the difference.
  • Keep the other performance mods' settings in mind, since overlapping fixes can duplicate work.
