BugTorched Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I change or turn off a BugTorched tweak?
Close the game and open the BugTorched config file in your instance's config folder. Find the option for that fix or tweak, set it to false, save, and relaunch. Most of these changes apply at startup, so a world reload won't be enough.
A block placement or recipe behaves differently than vanilla. Is that BugTorched?
Probably, since the mod includes small tweaks and backports to recipes and placement rules. Look through the config for the matching option and disable it, then restart and test again. If the behavior doesn't change, another mod is the cause.
How can I tell if BugTorched is causing my crash?
Open the crash report in the crash-reports folder, or logs/latest.log, and read the stack trace. If BugTorched classes show up in it, it may be involved. Then disable its related options one at a time and retest to confirm.
Can BugTorched fix my crash instead of causing it?
Yes, fixing crashes is a main purpose of the mod. It patches known vanilla, Forge and modded crash bugs. If a crash started after you removed BugTorched, put it back and check that its relevant fixes are enabled in the config.
How do I reduce lag and memory problems in a big modpack with BugTorched?
Leave the performance-related options enabled in the config, since they address chunk loading and memory leaks. Make sure the game has enough allocated RAM in your launcher for the size of the pack. If lag persists, change one option at a time so you can see what actually helps.
Do I have to enable anything for the Thaumcraft, Witchery, Extra Utilities or Aether II patches?
Generally no. The patches apply on their own when those mods are installed. If one is causing trouble, you can switch it off in the BugTorched config.
I don't have Thaumcraft or Witchery installed. Will BugTorched still work?
Yes. The vanilla, Forge and performance fixes work on their own. The mod-specific patches simply do nothing when the target mod is absent.
My config changes aren't doing anything. Why?
The game was probably still running when you edited the file, or the edit wasn't saved. Close the game fully, edit and save the config, then launch again. Also check that you edited the file in the instance you're actually playing.
Can I run BugTorched with other optimization or bug-fix mods?
Usually yes, but overlapping fixes can conflict. If you see odd behavior or a crash after adding another fix mod, turn off the duplicate option on one side. Test changes one at a time.
What should I do first if my old modpack is unstable?
Keep BugTorched's default settings and play until you hit the problem. Then read the crash report or log to find which mod and fix are involved, and adjust only that config option. Changing many options at once makes it hard to tell what helped.
