BSL Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on BSL Shaders after installing it?
Open Options, then Video Settings, then Shaders, and select BSL from the shader pack list. If the Shaders button is missing, your shader loader isn't active yet.
Why is my screen black or flashing when I enable BSL Shaders?
This usually means the shader pack failed to compile, often from a mismatched shader loader or a broken graphics driver. Try switching to a different shader pack and back, or restart the game so the pack recompiles.
How do I open the BSL Shaders settings menu?
Go to Options, Video Settings, Shaders, then click Shader Options while BSL is selected. Everything from water waves to bloom is toggled from that menu.
Can I use BSL Shaders with other mods like OptiFine or Sodium?
BSL needs a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine to run, so it works alongside whichever one you use. Other rendering mods can conflict, so test them one at a time if visuals break.
Why does BSL Shaders tank my FPS so hard?
Shadows, volumetric light, and depth of field are the biggest performance drains. Lowering shadow resolution, disabling volumetric light, and turning off depth of field usually restores playable framerates.
How do I make BSL Shaders look more cinematic?
Enable depth of field, motion blur, and bloom, then reduce the depth of field focus distance so distant terrain blurs. Pairing that with a lower FOV and a warm color grading preset gives the film look.
How do I get better water reflections with BSL Shaders?
Turn on water reflections and refractions in the shader options, and raise the reflection quality if your GPU can handle it. Calm weather and clear skies give the sharpest mirror-like results.
Why do my clouds look flat or weird with BSL Shaders?
BSL has its own cloud system separate from vanilla, so check the cloud settings in Shader Options and pick a style like volumetric or vanilla. If clouds vanish entirely, make sure vanilla clouds aren't disabled in Video Settings.
Does BSL Shaders work in the Nether and End?
Yes, BSL applies its lighting and effects in all dimensions, though the Nether's fog and the End's void can look very different from the Overworld. You can adjust dimension-specific fog and lighting in the shader options.
How do I reset BSL Shaders back to default settings?
Open Shader Options and use the reset button, or delete the shader pack's config file so it regenerates fresh. Reloading the shader pack after resetting applies the defaults immediately.
