Set up a small axolotl breeding pool

A dedicated pool keeps your axolotls safe and makes feeding them with tropical fish easy.

Build the pool

1. Dig a hole at least two blocks deep and a few blocks wide, and fill it with water.

2. Surround it with solid blocks or fences so the axolotls can't leave. Axolotls are only comfortable in water, so don't make the water too shallow.

3. Leave a spot where you can stand and reach every part of the pool.

Move your axolotls in

• Use a bucket on an adult axolotl to scoop it up, then pour the bucket into your pool.
• You can also lead axolotls with a lead.

Feed and breed

1. Stand beside the pool with tropical fish in your hand.

2. Use a fish on each adult. Both will show hearts.

3. A baby appears when they meet. Keep the baby in the same pool.

Keep them safe

Axolotls can be attacked by hostile mobs such as drowned and guardians, so don't build near ocean monuments or where drowned spawn. Keep other fish out of the pool, because axolotls hunt them. Well-lit surroundings help keep mobs away.
