How do I breed axolotls with this mod?
Hold a regular Tropical Fish item and right-click two adult axolotls, one after the other. Both should enter love mode with hearts, and a baby axolotl appears shortly after. You no longer need to put the fish in a bucket first.
Do I still need buckets of tropical fish?
No, the point of the mod is that the plain Tropical Fish item works as breeding food. The vanilla bucket method should still work as before, since the mod only adds the item as an extra option.
Where do I get tropical fish without using a bucket?
Catch them with a fishing rod, or kill tropical fish mobs, which drop the Tropical Fish item. Both give the item directly, so there is no need to scoop fish with a bucket.
Can I breed axolotls with cod, salmon or pufferfish?
No. The mod only changes things for Tropical Fish, so other fish won't trigger breeding. Make sure you're holding Tropical Fish and not another catch from your rod.
My axolotls won't enter love mode. What's wrong?
Check that both are adults, since babies can't breed. Make sure you're holding Tropical Fish and not a different fish. Also, an axolotl that has just bred has to wait out a cooldown before it can breed again.
Does feeding tropical fish to a baby axolotl make it grow faster?
In vanilla, feeding a baby the correct food speeds up its growth. With this mod the Tropical Fish item should count as that food too. If you want to confirm, feed one baby and watch for the growth particles.
Is the fish used up when I feed an axolotl?
Feeding works like other animal breeding, so in survival the item is consumed from your stack. Catch a small stack before you start so you don't run out mid-breeding. Creative mode doesn't use up items.
Does this mod change axolotl colours or the chance of a rare blue one?
No, it only changes what you can feed them. Baby colours and the rare blue variant work as in vanilla, so you'll just get more attempts for less effort.
Does the mod work with other animal or aquatic mods?
It's a small mod that only adjusts the axolotl breeding food, so it should coexist with most mods. A mod that also overhauls axolotl behaviour or breeding could conflict. If breeding acts strangely, test with just this mod loaded.
Will this mod cause lag or affect performance?
It's very unlikely to. It doesn't add new mobs, blocks or world generation, only an extra accepted breeding item. Any lag in an axolotl pool is more likely from having too many mobs in one small area.
