How to survive longer when death means a crash
Dying closes your game and can cost you unsaved progress, so staying alive matters more than usual. These habits help.
Prepare before you leave
- Eat before exploring. Keep your hunger bar high and carry plenty of food.
- Wear your best armor and carry a shield if you have one.
- Bring a Totem of Undying for high-risk trips. Hold it in your off-hand and it will save you from a lethal hit, so no death happens and no crash occurs.
- Carry a water bucket. It can cancel fall damage and help in lava emergencies.
- Set a bed or respawn point near your base, so after a restart you're not far from your stuff.
Play defensively
1. Don't dig straight down. Mine in stairs or check below you first.
2. Light up caves as you go so mobs can't spawn around you.
3. Retreat and heal when your health is low instead of pushing on.
4. Keep distance from creepers and use ranged weapons on dangerous mobs.
5. Use Peaceful difficulty if you just want to build or explore without hostile mobs. Starvation, lava, falling and drowning can still kill you.
Save the world before entering a new dimension or tackling a boss, so if the worst happens you only lose a little.
