Using Infinity on a Crossbow Without Carrying Arrows

Which Versions Support This

On Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer, Mojang changed how crossbows handle the Infinity enchantment, and this mod follows that change. On those versions, an Infinity crossbow no longer needs a spare arrow sitting in your inventory to fire.

Steps

1. Obtain a crossbow and apply the Infinity enchantment to it (enchanting table, anvil, or loot).

2. Clear all arrows out of your inventory so you can confirm the behavior.

3. Load the crossbow by holding right-click. If it charges, the mod is doing its job.

4. Release right-click to fire the bolt.

Important Notes

  • On Minecraft versions older than 1.20.5, crossbows do not support Infinity the same way, so this behavior will not apply there. The mod only extends crossbow support on the newer versions.
  • Multishot, Quick Charge, and Piercing still work alongside Infinity as normal — the mod does not change those.
  • If the crossbow refuses to load, double-check that the Infinity enchantment is actually present on the item.

This makes an Infinity crossbow a genuinely self-sufficient ranged weapon, with no ammo slot tax.
