Booxyx Optimized Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the shader after installing it?
Open your Options menu in-game, go to Video Settings, then select Shaders. Find Booxyx Optimized Shaders in the list and click it to activate. You'll see the lighting and shadows take effect immediately.
My game is running slow even with this shader. What should I do?
Open the shader settings (usually by pressing a key like Right Shift or through Video Settings) and switch to the Potato preset, which reduces shadow quality and reflection detail. If still slow, lower your render distance or disable water reflections in the shader options.
Why do my shadows look blocky or pixelated?
This is normal on lower presets—Potato and Low intentionally reduce shadow resolution to maintain frame rate. If you want smoother shadows, switch to the Medium preset, but expect a small performance cost.
Can I use this shader with other mods?
Yes, Booxyx Optimized Shaders works with most mods, but avoid using multiple shader packs at once. Some mods that heavily modify lighting or block rendering may conflict—test in-game to confirm compatibility.
Why does everything look too dark or too bright?
Adjust the brightness slider in your shader settings, or check your in-game brightness setting under Video Options. If only specific blocks look wrong, make sure you're not using a conflicting resource pack that overrides textures.
How do I enable water reflections?
Open the shader settings menu and look for a Water Reflections or Reflections toggle—turn it on. Keep in mind that reflections cost more performance, so use the Low or Medium preset if you enable them on a budget PC.
Do wet blocks (like wet stone or wet dirt) look different with this shader?
Yes, wet blocks receive subtle reflections and appear shinier when this shader is active. This effect is part of the shader's design and cannot be disabled separately, but it's subtle enough not to impact performance significantly.
Will this shader work on my laptop?
Probably—the Potato preset is designed for low-end hardware and laptops. Start with Potato, test your frame rate, and upgrade to Low or Medium only if your laptop handles it well.
Why do mobs and players look weird or have strange shadows?
This is usually a conflict with your resource pack or another mod. Try switching to the default resource pack temporarily to test, or check if a mod is interfering with entity rendering.
Can I adjust individual settings like shadow distance or reflection strength?
Yes—open the shader settings menu and you'll find sliders and toggles for shadow quality, reflection intensity, and other effects. Experiment with these to find the balance between visuals and performance that works for your PC.
