Enable and Use the FPS Counter
Display Real-Time FPS
Monitor your performance while playing:
1. Press F3 to open the debug overlay
2. Look at the top-left corner—your current FPS displays here
3. The overlay also shows memory usage, chunk count, and entity count
4. Press F3 again to close it
Interpret the Numbers
The debug screen shows:
- First number (FPS): Your frames per second—higher is smoother
- Memory bar: Shows RAM usage; if it fills up, you may lag
- Chunk updates: How many terrain chunks are being processed
- Entities: Number of mobs and objects nearby
If FPS drops when many entities appear, reduce mob spawning or lower render distance. If memory fills quickly, allocate more RAM to Minecraft in your launcher settings. Use F3 periodically while exploring to identify performance bottlenecks in different areas.
