BlueMap Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open my BlueMap in the browser?
Start your world or server, then go to http://localhost:8100 in a browser on the same machine. If the page loads but the map is empty, wait for the first render to finish. You can check progress with /bluemap.
BlueMap says it needs me to accept something and nothing renders. What do I do?
Open config/bluemap/core.conf and set accept-download to true. Then run /bluemap reload or restart. BlueMap needs this to fetch the base resources it uses to draw blocks, and it won't render until you agree.
Why is my map black or empty even though the page loads?
The map usually hasn't been rendered yet, or the render is still running. Run /bluemap to see the status. If it's idle, run /bluemap render to start one. Also check that the world is actually listed in a file under config/bluemap/maps.
How do I make my BlueMap visible to friends outside my network?
Port-forward the webserver port (8100 by default) on your router to the machine running BlueMap, then share your public IP and port. For a cleaner setup, put a reverse proxy such as nginx in front of it. On a hosted server, make sure the host has opened that port to you.
My changes in the world aren't showing up on the map. How do I update it?
BlueMap re-renders changed chunks on its own, but only once they've been saved to disk, so run /save-all to speed things up. To force it, use /bluemap update for changed areas or /bluemap render for a specific map or region.
How do I force a full re-render of a map?
Use /bluemap purge to delete the existing render data, then /bluemap render to build it again. This is the usual fix after changing map settings or resource packs, or when tiles look corrupted. Expect it to take a while on large worlds.
How do I hide players on the BlueMap?
In the plugin config inside config/bluemap, you can turn off live player markers entirely. You can also hide players who are sneaking, invisible, vanished, or in a different world. Run /bluemap reload afterwards. Individual players can also be hidden with the bluemap.hide-style permission or an in-game hide command, depending on your setup.
How do I stop caves and underground areas from showing on the map?
In your map's config file under config/bluemap/maps, set remove-caves-below-y to a Y level and keep cave detection enabled. This hides caves below that level so the map looks like a clean surface view. Then re-render the map so the change applies.
How do I hide a private base or part of the world?
In the map config, use render bounds (min-x, max-x, min-z, max-z and similar) to limit what gets rendered. This cuts out areas outside the box. You can also use hidden-block settings or the render-edges option to control what's visible. Purge and re-render afterwards, because already-rendered tiles stay on disk.
BlueMap is making my server lag. How can I reduce the load?
Lower render-thread-count in core.conf so rendering uses fewer CPU threads. Avoid running huge full renders while players are online, and consider limiting the rendered area. You can also pause rendering with /bluemap freeze and resume it later.
