Blasting Smelts Glass Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I smelt sand into glass in a blast furnace?
Open the blast furnace, put sand in the top input slot and any fuel in the bottom slot. The sand smelts into glass and appears in the output slot on the right. The mod only changes which furnace accepts the recipe, so the interface works exactly like vanilla.
Is a blast furnace actually faster than a regular furnace for glass?
Yes. The mod's purpose is to let you make glass in a blast furnace faster than in a regular furnace. The blast furnace cooks quicker than a normal furnace, so a stack of sand finishes sooner.
How do I craft a blast furnace?
The recipe is the vanilla one: 5 iron ingots, 1 furnace and 3 smooth stone. Smooth stone comes from smelting regular stone in a furnace. The mod doesn't add a new recipe for it.
Does this mod add new blocks or items?
No. It only lets the existing blast furnace smelt sand into glass. You'll find nothing new in the creative tab or recipe book apart from that smelting recipe.
Can I still smelt sand in a normal furnace?
Yes. The vanilla furnace recipe for sand is untouched, and the mod just adds the blast furnace as another option. Use whichever you have available.
My sand won't smelt in the blast furnace. What's wrong?
First check that the mod is actually loaded in your mod list. On a multiplayer server, it needs to be installed on the server too. Also make sure the blast furnace has fuel and the sand is in the top slot, not the fuel slot.
Can I use hoppers to automate glass smelting with a blast furnace?
Yes, it works like vanilla. A hopper feeding from above puts sand into the input slot, a hopper feeding from the side supplies fuel, and a hopper underneath pulls glass out of the output. Point the hoppers at the correct faces or the items will go into the wrong slot.
What fuel should I use in the blast furnace for glass?
Any vanilla furnace fuel works, such as coal, charcoal or wood. For a large automated setup, a long-burning fuel means you refill it less often.
Does a blast furnace smelt other things like ores too?
Yes, it still smelts the metal ores and other items it handles in vanilla. The mod just adds sand to that list.
Will this mod cause lag or conflict with other mods?
It only adds a smelting recipe, so it shouldn't affect performance. If another mod changes blast furnace recipes, they could conflict, so test the sand recipe in a new world if glass stops smelting.
