Locating Cave and Underground Biomes with Biome Spy
Cave biomes still work
Biome Spy explicitly supports underground cave biomes. The faster search does not skip depth — it still resolves biomes that only generate below the surface, such as lush or dripstone cave variants. Use the same /locate biome <id> command you would for a surface biome.
Finding the entrance
A locate result gives you horizontal coordinates, not a guaranteed cave mouth. Once you have the X and Z, travel there and dig down or look for a natural opening. Bring light and a way back up, since cave biomes can sit deep underground.
Modded cave biomes
If you run AlexsCaves or similar mods, their cave biomes are searchable through the same command. Use the mod's namespace in the biome ID. Tab-completion is the safest way to get it right.
Tips
- Search from near the surface first to get a rough area, then refine.
- If no result appears, the biome may not exist in your current world's generation — try a different ID or region.
- The speed-up means you can test several cave biome IDs in quick succession without lag, which is handy when exploring what a modpack actually generated.
