Biome Replacer Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get started with Biome Replacer?
Open your world's configuration folder and find biome-replacer.properties. Add a line in the format old_biome > new_biome, save the file, and restart the server for the change to take effect.
What is the exact format for a replacement rule?
Each rule goes on its own line as old_biome > new_biome, using the biome's registry ID. The greater-than symbol separates the biome you want to remove from the one you want in its place.
Do I need to restart the server after editing the config?
Yes, the mod reads the properties file at server startup, so changes only apply after a restart. Reloading the world without restarting will not pick up new rules.
Will Biome Replacer change biomes in chunks that already exist?
No, it only affects newly generated terrain, so existing chunks keep their original biomes. To see replacements, you need to explore new areas or generate fresh chunks.
Can I replace a biome with itself or chain multiple replacements?
Replacing a biome with itself does nothing useful, and chained rules are not applied recursively. Each biome is matched against the rules once, so point it directly at the biome you actually want.
Does this mod work on the client, or is it server-side only?
It works entirely server-side, so you only need it on the server. Clients can join without installing it, and it will not affect their game.
Can I replace modded or datapack biomes?
Yes, as long as the biome has a valid registry ID from the mod or datapack. Use that exact ID in your rule just like you would for a vanilla biome.
Why is my biome replacement not working?
Check that the biome IDs are spelled exactly as they appear in the registry and that you restarted the server. Also make sure you are looking at newly generated chunks, since old chunks are untouched.
Does Biome Replacer affect structures, mobs, or terrain shape?
No, it only swaps which biome is assigned to a location. Terrain generation, structures, and mob spawning follow the new biome's normal rules rather than being changed directly by the mod.
Will this mod hurt performance or conflict with other world-gen mods?
It is lightweight because it only redirects biome lookups during generation. Conflicts are rare, but other mods that also override biome placement may take priority depending on load order.
