Biology Dictionary Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get the Biology Dictionary book in Survival mode?
Purchase the physical book from a Wandering Trader. Once you have it, hold it and right-click (or press the default hotkey `) to open the encyclopedia.
Why isn't the mod detecting mobs I've already seen?
The mod automatically tracks mobs when you look directly at them and open the dictionary. Make sure you're looking straight at the creature when you open the book—looking at empty air or blocks opens the home screen instead.
Can I use the hotkey instead of right-clicking with the book?
Yes, you can press the hotkey (default: `) to open the dictionary without holding the book. The book itself is not required once you've obtained it.
How do I find a specific mob I haven't discovered yet?
Open the dictionary and check the silhouettes of undiscovered creatures to see which ones you're missing. When you're near a mob of a type you've already found, the mod highlights nearby creatures of the same type to help you locate them.
Can I permanently stop a baby animal from growing up?
Yes, the mod lets you lock the growth of baby animals so they stay small forever. Open the dictionary while looking at a baby mob and use the lock option to prevent it from aging.
How do I stop villagers from picking up items on my farm?
Open the dictionary while looking at a villager to access their inventory screen, then take the items they're holding. You can also view their job site location to understand their behavior better.
Does muting a mob affect its babies?
Yes, when you mute a noisy mob using the dictionary, any babies it produces will inherit the silence and stay quiet as well.
Can I see what items attract a specific mob?
Open the dictionary and look at a mob's detail screen to view its ecology information, which includes what items tempt or attract that creature.
Does this mod work with custom mobs from other mods?
Yes, the mod automatically collects information on both vanilla and custom mobs without requiring any extra setup. Custom mobs will appear in the encyclopedia as you discover them.
Can I make NPCs stay still and invulnerable for building?
Yes, the mod allows you to force static NPCs to stay in place and become invulnerable, which is useful for survival builds where you want creatures to remain exactly where you place them.
