Make Metal and Shiny Blocks Look Realistic

Understand How Specular Maps Work

BetterRTX Remastered includes specular maps that tell shaders which surfaces should shine. Metal blocks, polished stone, and wet surfaces are configured to reflect light realistically. The specular map data is built into the resource pack—you don't need to configure it manually.

Position Lights to Show Off Reflections

Place torches, lanterns, or other light sources near metal blocks and polished surfaces. The reflections and highlights will be most visible when light sources are positioned at angles to the surface. Experiment with placing lights at different heights and distances to see how reflections change.

Combine with Ray-Traced Shaders for Maximum Effect

If your shader supports advanced lighting (like path-tracing or ray-tracing), enable it. These shaders make the specular maps shine even more dramatically, creating realistic reflections that mirror nearby blocks and light sources. Even without dedicated ray-tracing hardware, compatible shaders will render convincing reflections on shiny surfaces.
