Betterrtx Remastered Resource Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need a special shader to use this resource pack?
No — BetterRTX Remastered works with most popular community shaders, and will still improve your visuals with standard shader setups. For the best results with realistic reflections and depth, pair it with shaders that support normal and specular maps.
Why do my blocks look flat even with the resource pack installed?
Make sure your shader is actually loading and that it supports normal map rendering. Check your shader settings to enable features like parallax mapping or normal map interpretation — some shaders have these disabled by default.
What's the difference between normal maps and specular maps in this pack?
Normal maps add the illusion of bumps and surface detail by changing how light reflects across a block's surface. Specular maps control which surfaces shine (like metal or wet stone) and which stay dull, making reflections look realistic.
Can I use this pack with ray tracing on Java Edition?
This pack replicates the
Bedrock RTX look but doesn't enable true ray tracing on Java Edition — that requires dedicated hardware and software support Java doesn't have. However, compatible shaders create very similar realistic lighting and reflection effects.

The pack itself has minimal performance impact since it's just textures and maps. Performance depends on your shader choice — more advanced shaders with better normal map support will demand more from your GPU.
Which blocks and items does this pack improve?
BetterRTX Remastered focuses on standard building blocks, tools, and usable items with detailed surface maps. Check the pack's preview screenshots to see which blocks receive the most visual enhancement in your shader setup.
Why do metal blocks look dull instead of shiny?
Your shader may not be reading the specular maps correctly, or specular/reflectance settings might be turned down in your shader config. Try adjusting your shader's material or reflection settings to make metallic surfaces respond to light properly.
Can I use this pack alongside other resource packs?
Resource packs stack in your load order, so you can layer this pack with others — just place BetterRTX Remastered higher in your list if you want its textures to take priority. Be aware that conflicting texture files will override each other.
What resolution are the normal maps in this pack?
The pack includes 128x resolution normal maps, which provide detailed surface information while staying performance-friendly compared to higher resolutions.
Why do some surfaces look wet or reflective when they shouldn't?
This usually means your shader's specular map interpretation is too aggressive. Lower the specular or reflectance multiplier in your shader settings, or check if the shader has a material smoothness slider you can adjust per-block type.
