Better Than Mending changes how the Mending enchantment works. In vanilla, Mending slowly repairs your gear only when experience orbs happen to drop nearby, which means a favourite tool can stay damaged for a long time. This mod lets you take control of that process.

To use it, hold an item enchanted with Mending and sneak while right-clicking. The item immediately spends the experience levels already sitting in your bar to restore its durability. You decide when to repair, rather than waiting for orbs.

If you are carrying several qualifying pieces of gear, the one with the lowest remaining durability is repaired first. The mod ships with three enchantment levels by default, and a higher level converts your levels into more durability per use. Unbreaking and Mending are kept separate by default, matching the author's intended balance, and Infinity and Mending can coexist on the same bow, which vanilla normally forbids.
