Better Tab Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the scrollable player list?
Hold the Tab key as you normally would to view the player list, then use your mouse scroll wheel or the arrow keys to scroll through it while Tab is held. The list stays open and scrolls instead of cutting off, so you can keep holding Tab and move through every player.
Why can't I scroll the player list with my mouse wheel?
Scrolling only works while the player list is actively shown, so you must keep Tab held down. If you release Tab the list closes and the scroll position resets, so hold Tab and scroll at the same time.
How do I see the ping number instead of the bars?
The mod replaces the default signal bars with a numerical ping value automatically once installed, so there is nothing to toggle in most setups. If you still see bars, check that another mod or resource pack is not overriding the player list rendering.
What do the ping numbers mean and what's a good value?
The number is your measured round-trip latency to the server in milliseconds, so lower is better. A low value means a responsive connection, while a high value means noticeable delay, and the exact thresholds depend on the server and your network.
Can I see more than 80 players on a big server now?
Yes, the mod removes the default cap that hides players past the limit, so the full roster is available in the scrollable list. You scroll through everyone rather than losing the names that used to be cut off.
The player list still looks cut off on my small screen, what's wrong?
Make sure you are actually scrolling the list while Tab is held, since the mod prevents overlap by letting you move through entries rather than squeezing them all on screen. If names still overlap, another mod that changes the tab list may be conflicting.
How do I get badge icons to show next to player names?
Badges appear when the server or a supporting mod supplies badge data for a player, and the mod renders those icons beside the name in the list. You cannot add badges to yourself from the client alone; they come from whatever system is providing them.
Why don't I see any badges even though the server has them?
Badge display depends on the server or
companion mod sending badge information the client can read. If the server does not provide it, or a conflicting tab-list mod is installed, the icons will not appear.

It generally works alongside most mods, but other mods that also rewrite the player list can conflict and cause missing ping numbers, badges, or scrolling. If something looks wrong, test with only this mod enabled to isolate the conflict.
Will this mod hurt my performance on a server with hundreds of players?
The mod only changes how the existing player list is displayed and scrolled, so the impact is minimal even with large rosters. Any lag you notice is far more likely from the server or your connection than from the tab list itself.
