How to Navigate the Redesigned Stronghold Layout Without Getting Lost
Understand the Structure's Logic
Better Strongholds organizes its rooms around a network of tunnels, hallways, and staircases rather than the loose vanilla arrangement. Rooms connect through corridors that often loop back on themselves, and staircases link different vertical levels. Before you explore, pick a consistent marking method: place torches only on the right-hand wall as you go deeper, or drop a distinctive block at every junction. This turns the maze into a readable map you can retrace.
Handle the Verticality
Staircases are a core feature, so you will frequently change elevation. Keep an eye on your Y-level and note it at each major room; if you get lost, returning to a known height helps you reorient. Hidden areas are built into the design, so check for suspicious walls, dead-end corridors that seem too clean, and gaps behind staircases. Breaking a single block to peek is often worth it.
Watch for Traps
Traps are part of the challenge. Move deliberately through narrow hallways and unfamiliar rooms, and avoid sprinting across pressure-plate-looking floors. If a corridor suddenly looks too convenient, it may be a trap. Carry blocks to bridge over or block off hazards, and keep your health topped up so a single mistake is not fatal.
Retreat Cleanly
If you get turned around, follow your torch markers back to the entrance and restart your route rather than guessing.
