Stone stairs can be smelted twice: first from cobblestone stairs to stone stairs, then from stone stairs to smooth stone stairs.

Process

First smelt: Place cobblestone stairs in a furnace to create stone stairs.

Second smelt: Take those stone stairs and smelt them again to produce smooth stone stairs.

1. Gather your cobblestone stairs

2. Smelt them in a furnace to get stone stairs

3. Place the stone stairs back in the furnace

4. Smelt again to create smooth stone stairs

5. Collect your finished smooth stone stairs
