Better Stoneworking Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I smelt cobblestone slabs?
Place cobblestone slabs in a furnace (or smoker/blast furnace) just like you would regular cobblestone blocks. They will smelt into stone slabs at the same rate as full blocks.
Can I smelt stairs or just slabs?
You can smelt both slabs and stairs. Any slab or stair variant of a supported block (cobblestone, stone, sandstone, deepslate) can be smelted into its next tier.
What blocks does this mod work with?
The mod works with cobblestone, stone, sandstone, and deepslate block variants. This includes their slab and stair forms, and you can smelt them through the normal furnace smelting chain.
Do I need a special furnace or crafting recipe?
No special equipment needed—use any standard furnace, smoker, or blast furnace. The mod simply enables the vanilla smelting recipes for slab and stair variants that normally aren't smeltable.
Can I smelt smooth stone slabs?
Yes, if you smelt stone slabs in a furnace, they will become smooth stone slabs, following the same progression as full blocks.
Does this mod work with modded stone blocks?
The mod is designed for vanilla stone variants. Compatibility with modded stone blocks depends on how those blocks are implemented and may require additional mod support.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
No, this mod only adds smelting recipes and doesn't add new blocks or entities, so it has minimal performance impact.
Can I use a blast furnace or smoker instead of a regular furnace?
Yes, slabs and stairs can be smelted in any furnace-type block, including blast furnaces and smokers, though blast furnaces smelt faster.
What do I get when I smelt a deepslate slab?
Smelting a deepslate slab will give you a deepslate block slab, following the same progression as regular deepslate blocks.
Does this mod change how much fuel is needed to smelt?
No, slabs and stairs use the same fuel efficiency as their full-block counterparts, so a slab uses proportionally less fuel than a full block would.
