Fixing a Nether Map That Shows Nothing or Shows Only Ceiling

Symptom: the map is blank or nearly empty

This almost always means your height cutoff is set below the blocks you're actually walking on. The mod only draws blocks at or below the chosen height, so if the cutoff sits under the floor, there's nothing to render.

Fix: open the config, raise the height value (or switch to map creation level and remake the map while standing on the floor you want), then create a new map. Existing maps won't retroactively change their cutoff.

Symptom: the map is a solid mass with no tunnels

Here the cutoff is too high, so the map is drawing the netherrack ceiling and roof layers instead of the open space below. Everything overlaps into one indistinguishable blob.

Fix: lower the height value to just above the floor of the layer you travel on, then remake the map. You should start seeing the gaps that represent caves and corridors.

Symptom: the map worked, then stopped updating

  • Make sure you're holding the map while moving; maps only fill in as you carry them.
  • Confirm you're in a dimension the mod affects (the Nether and other cave-like dimensions).
  • If you changed the config mid-session, recreate the map — the old one keeps its original setting.

General rule of thumb

Set the cutoff slightly above your feet on the path you use most. That single adjustment resolves the blank-map and solid-blob problems in most cases.
