Choosing Between Map Creation Level and a Custom Height
What each option actually does
The mod gives you two ways to decide which blocks appear on a map. Understanding the difference saves you from remaking maps constantly.
Map creation level ties the cutoff to the Y coordinate you were at when the map was first created. Each new map inherits the height you were standing at, so a map made on a high bridge shows the bridge layer, and a map made down in a tunnel shows the tunnel layer. This is handy when you naturally explore at different depths and want each map to match where you made it.
Custom value ignores where you are standing and always uses the number you typed. Every map you create uses that same cutoff, which is what you want if you have one main travel level — a highway, a mining floor, or a base level — and you want all your maps to agree.
Picking the right one
- Use map creation level if you explore vertically and like maps that adapt to where you are.
- Use custom value if you have a fixed route and want consistent, predictable maps.
- If you switch modes later, existing maps keep the cutoff they were made with; create fresh maps to apply the new setting.
Practical tip
Before committing, walk to the layer you care about, note your Y coordinate, and decide whether that number should be fixed for all maps or just for this one.
