How to Tell Mount Health Apart From Your Own Health at a Glance
New users sometimes confuse their own health and hunger with their mount's, since both sets of indicators can appear together. This guide helps you separate them quickly.
Position and ownership cues
Your own health and hunger bars remain in their standard HUD locations and always reflect you. The mount's health and hunger are drawn as a separate set tied to the animal you are riding. When you dismount, the mount-specific indicators disappear, which is the clearest confirmation of which bars belong to the mount.
Practical checks
If you take damage from a mob while riding, watch which hearts decrease — your own hearts will drop, while the mount's hearts stay unchanged unless the mount was also hit. Conversely, if your mount takes fall damage, only the mount's hearts fall. Use this to decide your next action: if your own health is low, dismount and retreat or heal; if the mount's health is low, lead it away from danger and feed it. Remember that the jump bar replaces your experience bar only while charging a jump, so a missing experience bar during a jump is normal and not a sign that something is wrong with your HUD.
