How to Read the Mount Health and Hunger Bars in Better Mount HUD
When you mount a horse, donkey, mule, llama, or similar rideable mob, the mod overlays your mount's condition directly onto your HUD. The key is knowing which bar belongs to whom, because your own hunger and your mount's health now share screen space.
Identifying each bar
Your personal hunger bar stays in its usual position. The mount's health appears as a row of hearts tied to the mount rather than to you, and the mount's hunger (for horses and similar mobs that have a feeding value) is shown alongside it. Watch both while you ride: a mount that is low on health or unfed will behave sluggishly and may refuse to move quickly.
Acting on what you see
If the mount's health hearts are dropping, dismount and check for hazards such as falls, cacti, or hostile mobs before continuing. If the hunger indicator is low, feed the mount its appropriate food while standing next to it. Because both values are visible at once, you no longer need to open the inventory or press a key to check your mount's state mid-journey — glance at the HUD, then decide whether to keep riding or stop and tend to the animal.
