How to Find a Better Mineshaft in Your World
Where They Spawn
Better Mineshafts replaces the vanilla abandoned mineshaft generation, so any mineshaft you find will be one of the mod's variants. They still generate underground across most biomes, but each biome gets its own themed design. The variant you encounter depends on the biome the structure generates in, not the biome you are standing in when you dig down.
Practical Search Steps
1. Dig or cave down to the depth range where mineshafts normally appear — deep underground, below the surface layers.
2. Explore large cave systems. Because the mod pairs well with cave overhauls, mineshafts often intersect cave networks and are easier to spot from open caverns.
3. Watch for surface openings. Some variants breach the surface, giving you a direct entrance instead of a long dig.
4. Look for wooden support beams, rails, and fence posts — these mark the start of a mineshaft corridor.
5. If you want a specific variant, travel to the matching biome before mining. A mushroom mineshaft is rare, so expect to search many mushroom fields before finding one.
Tips
Bring torches, a pickaxe, and a light source. Mineshafts are sprawling and dark, and the mod's larger layouts mean you can get lost quickly. Mark your entrance so you can find your way back out.
