How to Explore the Different Biome Variants of Better Mineshafts

Understanding Variants

The mod generates nine distinct mineshaft variants, each tied to the biome where the structure spawns. The layout, materials, and decoration change to match the biome's theme. One variant is a rare mushroom mineshaft, which only appears in mushroom biomes and is much harder to find than the others.

How to Target a Specific Variant

1. Decide which variant you want by matching it to a biome — for example, a mushroom mineshaft requires a mushroom field.

2. Travel to that biome and dig down to mineshaft depth.

3. Explore until you hit wooden supports and rails; if the materials and style match the biome, you have found the right variant.

4. If the variant does not match, move a good distance away and dig again — each mineshaft is generated per its own biome location.

What Changes Between Variants

Expect different wood types, block palettes, room shapes, and decorative details depending on the biome. The core features — loot chests, workstations, outposts, mineral deposits, and surface openings — appear across variants, but their placement and frequency vary.

Tip

Because layouts are larger and more dynamic than vanilla, bring plenty of torches and a way to mark your route. Consider exploring one variant fully before hunting the next.
