Better Mace Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I trigger the Better Mace wave effect?
Hit a mob or player with a mace smash attack, meaning you fall onto the target and land the hit while falling. The wave appears around the enemy you hurt, so a normal ground-level swing won't produce it.
Does Better Mace make the mace do more damage?
No. The data pack only adds the visual wave around the enemy you hit. Damage works the same as the vanilla mace.
I installed Better Mace but see no wave effect. What should I check?
First make sure the data pack is enabled for your world (check the /datapack list command) and that you are performing a real smash attack with a fall. If you added it after creating the world, run /reload or rejoin the world.
Is Better Mace a mod or a data pack, and does it need a mod loader?
It is a data pack, so it goes in your world's datapacks folder and works per world. It doesn't add new items or blocks, so you won't find anything in the creative menu for it.
How do I get high enough to do a big smash?
Jump from a high place, or use a wind charge to launch yourself upward and then drop onto your target. Aim at the enemy while falling so you land the hit as you come down.
Does the wave appear when I hit something with the mace without falling?
No, the effect is tied to the smash attack. Ordinary swings with the mace don't count, so you need to be falling when you land the hit.
Does the effect work on both mobs and players?
It plays around the enemy you hurt with a smash attack. You can test it on mobs in a single-player world to see it clearly.
Can I use Better Mace in multiplayer or on a server?
Yes, as a data pack it can be placed in the server world's datapacks folder, and players see the effect without installing anything on their side. Make sure it is enabled with /datapack list.
Will Better Mace cause lag?
It only runs when a smash attack hits, so it shouldn't affect performance during normal play. If you notice a dip, it would likely come from many smashes happening at once in a crowded area.
Does it work with other data packs or mods that change the mace?
It generally should alongside unrelated packs, but another pack that changes how the mace or smash attacks work may conflict with it. If the wave disappears, try moving Better Mace lower or higher in the pack order, or disable the other pack to test.
