Add your own image or animated GIF to the HUD

BetterHud can display custom pictures and animated GIFs. You put the file in the mod's folder, then reference it from a layout and a HUD.

Add the image file

1. In the BetterHud folder, find the images folder.

2. Copy in your PNG, or your GIF if you want it animated. Use a simple file name without spaces or capital letters.

3. Keep the image small. Large images take up too much screen and can make the resource pack bigger.

Define and place it

1. Open or create a file in the layouts folder and add an image layout. Point it at your file name.

2. Open your HUD file in huds and add that layout to the HUD's list, with an x and y position.

3. Save everything and run the reload command (/hud reload).

4.

Troubleshooting

  • If nothing appears, check that the file name in your layout matches the real file exactly, including the extension.
  • If the image is in the wrong place, adjust x and y in the HUD file.
  • If a GIF does not animate, check the console for warnings and test with a smaller file.
