Better Hud by Toxicity188 Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get started with Better Hud after installing it?
Start the server once so the mod creates its folders. Then put your layouts, images and HUD files in those folders and run the reload command. The mod rebuilds the resource pack, and players get it the next time they join or reload.
Do players need to install a client mod to see the custom HUD?
No. Everything runs on the server, and players only need to accept the resource pack the server sends. If a player declines the pack, the custom HUD won't display correctly.
How do I make a HUD show for everyone by default?
Add your HUD's name to the default HUD list in the config file, then reload. New players get it automatically when they join. You can also give or remove a HUD for a single player with the HUD command.
What's the difference between a HUD, a layout, and a popup?
A layout defines how elements such as text, images and bars are arranged. A HUD is the set of layouts that gets shown to a player. A popup is a temporary effect that appears on top of the HUD when you trigger it, then goes away.
I edited my HUD files but nothing changed in game. What did I do wrong?
You most likely didn't reload, or the player still has the old resource pack. Run the reload command, check the console for YAML or missing-file errors, then rejoin or re-accept the pack. Changes to images, fonts and other pack assets require the pack to be rebuilt and re-downloaded.
Why is my image or GIF not showing up, or showing as a weird character?
This usually means the pack wasn't rebuilt or the client is still using a cached one. Check that the file is in the right images folder and that the name in your config matches it exactly. Then reload and rejoin. If the pack failed to apply, you'll see boxes or missing glyphs instead of your image.
Can I still see the normal boss bar with Better Hud?
Yes. The mod uses the boss bar to draw HUD elements, but normal boss bars from the game or other plugins still display. If bars look misplaced, check that no other pack or mod changes the same boss bar shader files.
Will Better Hud lag my server?
It's built to run its work asynchronously in the background, so it shouldn't hurt tick time under normal use. Very heavy layouts with many frequently updating elements will cost more, so keep update-heavy placeholders to what you need.
Can I use placeholders and other plugins' data in my HUD?
Yes. Text elements can show built-in values, and on supported platforms they can use placeholders from other plugins such as PlaceholderAPI. Write the placeholder in your text layout, and make sure the plugin providing it is installed and working.
The HUD looks broken with a shader pack, Optifine or on Bedrock. Is that normal?
Yes, it can happen. The HUD relies on the Java resource pack's shader and font behavior, so client shader packs or other mods that replace the same shaders can break it. Bedrock players joining through a bridge generally can't render it. Test with a vanilla Java client first to confirm your setup works.
