Better Gold Recycling Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start recycling gold items?
Place any gold-based item in a furnace or blast furnace just like you would smelt ore. The furnace will process it and return either a gold ingot or gold nugget depending on the item's crafting cost.
What items can I recycle?
You can recycle gold-based items including clocks, powered rails, gold blocks, and other crafted gold items. Raw gold ore can also be smelted normally; this data pack expands recycling to finished goods.
Why do some items give ingots and others give nuggets?
Items that require four or more gold ingots to craft will yield one ingot when recycled, while cheaper items return nuggets. Clocks are an exception and always return nuggets due to their unique crafting recipe.
Do clocks always recycle into nuggets?
Yes, clocks always recycle into gold nuggets, even though they contain gold in their recipe. This is intentional due to the clock's crafting mechanics.
Can I use a regular furnace or do I need a blast furnace?
Both work—you can recycle gold items in either a regular furnace or a blast furnace. The blast furnace will process items faster if you're recycling in bulk.
Do I need fuel to recycle items?
Yes, furnaces and blast furnaces require fuel just like normal smelting. Use any standard furnace fuel such as coal, wood, or lava.
Can I recycle gold ingots directly?
Gold ingots themselves don't need recycling since they're already refined. However, you can craft them into gold blocks and recycle those if needed.
Is this data pack compatible with other mods?
This is a data pack, so it works with vanilla Minecraft and most mods that don't conflict with furnace recipes. If you're using mods that heavily modify smelting mechanics, test for conflicts.
How much fuel does recycling use compared to normal smelting?
Recycling uses the same amount of fuel as smelting any other item in a furnace—one fuel item per smelt operation.
Can I set up an automatic gold recycling system?
Yes, you can use hoppers to feed items into furnaces and collect output automatically, just like any other furnace automation setup. Blast furnaces work especially well for high-volume recycling.
