Better Farm Animals Resource Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need a mod loader or is this just a resource pack?
This is a resource pack, so you only need to activate it in your world settings—no mod loader required. Simply place it in your resourcepacks folder and enable it like any other pack.
Will the animals spawn naturally or do I need to do something?
Animals spawn and behave normally; the pack only changes their appearance. Existing animals in your world will immediately show the new textures once the pack is active.
Why do all my cows look identical?
Make sure the resource pack is actually enabled in your world settings and that you've reloaded the world after activating it. If textures still don't vary, check that no other conflicting resource pack is loaded above this one.
Can I use this with other resource packs?
Yes, but pack load order matters—place Better Farm Animals below any packs that also modify animal textures to ensure its textures show up. Packs that only change other elements (blocks, UI, etc.) won't conflict.
Do the different animal textures have any gameplay effect?
No, all texture varieties are purely cosmetic and don't affect drops, breeding, or any other mechanics.
Will this work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, as long as you have the pack installed locally, you'll see the custom textures on any server. Other players won't see them unless they also install the pack.
Does this pack change rabbits too?
Yes, rabbits are included and receive custom models and multiple texture varieties like the other farm animals.
Can I see what all the texture varieties look like before using the pack?
Check the Screenshots section on the wiki or the pack's preview images to see examples of each animal's different textures.
Will this affect my game performance?
Resource packs have minimal performance impact since they only change textures and models, not game logic. You shouldn't notice any FPS difference.
Do sheep still show different colors when dyed?
Yes, dyed sheep retain their color while using the pack's custom models and textures.
