Better Diminishing Tools Resource Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I see the damage stages on my tools?
The visual damage states appear automatically as your tools lose durability during normal gameplay. Simply use your tools to mine, fight, or perform other actions, and you'll notice the model gradually changes to show wear, scratches, and deterioration.
Do I need to do anything special to activate the resource pack?
No special setup is needed beyond enabling the resource pack in your world settings. Once activated, all compatible tools will immediately display their damage states as they take durability loss.
Which tools and weapons get damage visuals?
The pack includes custom damage stages for swords, wooden tools, the mace, shears, and flint and steel. Other tools may also have updated visuals depending on the pack's scope.
Can I tell if a tool is about to break just by looking at it?
Yes, that's the main purpose of this pack. As tools approach their breaking point, the visual damage becomes severe enough that you can see at a glance when durability is nearly gone, without checking the durability bar.
Does this pack work with vanilla Minecraft or do I need mods?
This is a resource pack that extends the Vanilla Tweaks Diminishing Tools project, so it works with vanilla Minecraft. You don't need to install separate mods, just enable the resource pack.
What happens to the durability bar when I use this pack?
The durability bar still exists and functions normally at the bottom of your screen. This pack simply gives you an alternative way to check durability by looking at the tool's appearance, so you don't have to rely solely on the bar.
Do swords look different from wooden tools as they get damaged?
Yes, swords develop scratches and a worn appearance from combat, while wooden tools show chipped paint and dents from mining and chopping. Each tool type has its own visual progression.
Will this pack slow down my game or affect performance?
Resource packs have minimal performance impact since they only change textures and models. This pack should run smoothly on most systems without noticeable lag.
Can I use this pack alongside other resource packs?
Yes, you can stack resource packs in your world settings. If another pack also modifies tool textures, load order matters—place this pack higher or lower depending on which visuals you prefer.
What if I want to see the exact durability number instead of just the visual state?
You can still check the durability bar at the bottom of your screen or hover over the tool in your inventory to see the exact durability value. The visual damage states are an additional aid, not a replacement for precise durability info.
