How to Get Accurate Hits Without Pixel Hunting
The Problem Better Combat Solves
In vanilla Minecraft, you must place your crosshair precisely on an enemy's hitbox to land a hit. Better Combat replaces that with a swing-volume check: the game tests the actual space your weapon passes through during the animation. This means glancing blows and near-misses can still connect.
How to Take Advantage
1. Stop trying to center the crosshair on the mob. Instead, aim so the weapon's arc will cross the enemy's body.
2. For tall mobs, aim slightly lower than you would in vanilla — the swing volume extends downward as the weapon sweeps.
3. For small or fast mobs, swing earlier than you think you need to; the animation's reach covers the gap.
4. When fighting in tight spaces, face along the corridor rather than at the wall, so the sweep has room to travel.
5. Combine this with combos: the later hits in a chain often have different reach, so a miss on the first swing can still be followed by a connect on the second.
Why It Feels Different
Because hit detection is based on the weapon's oriented bounding box, your effective range depends on the weapon type and the current swing in the combo. A long weapon mid-swing covers more space than a short one at rest. Learn each weapon's feel rather than memorizing a fixed reach value.
