Getting Longer Block Entity View Distance Without Losing FPS

Why Distance Matters

Normally, block entities like chests and signs stop rendering past a certain range to save performance, which makes distant storage rooms look empty. Better Block Entities replaces inactive block entities with lightweight meshes, so they can stay visible farther away at a lower cost.

Enable Optimization First

Open the config and make sure the block types you want to see at range are toggled on. If a type is disabled, it falls back to normal rendering and will not benefit from the extended distance behavior. Enable chests, signs, shulker boxes, and any other types relevant to your build.

Raise Your Render Distance

With optimization active, increase your block entity or entity render distance in your video settings or the mod's own options if it exposes one. Do this in small steps. Stand in a spot where you can see a long line of chests or signs, then nudge the distance up and watch your frame rate.

Watch for Pop-In and Glitches

At very long ranges you may notice blocks appearing abruptly or looking slightly different until you get closer, since the optimized mesh takes over. This is expected. If a specific type looks wrong at distance, disable that type in the config and keep the rest optimized.

Balance for Your Machine

Find the highest distance where FPS stays comfortable in your busiest area. That setting gives you the best combination of visibility and smooth performance.
