Better Block Entities Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I know if Better Block Entities is actually working?
Watch a chest, sign, or bed while it's idle — the mod converts it to a static mesh, so nearby FPS should rise compared to before. You can also open the config menu and check that optimization is enabled for the block types you care about.
Do I need to configure anything, or does it work out of the box?
It works out of the box with sensible defaults for supported block entities. Configuration is only needed if you want to disable optimization for a specific block type or resolve a conflict with another mod.
Why do my chests and signs still animate if the mod is supposed to optimize them?
The mod keeps the original animations and only converts a block entity to a mesh while it's inactive. When the block becomes active again (for example, a chest opening), it reverts to normal rendering so animations still play.
How do I disable optimization for just one block type?
Open the mod's config menu and toggle the individual block entity category you want to exclude, such as chests or signs. Changes apply per block type, so you don't have to turn off the whole mod.
My signs or chests look wrong after installing this mod — what do I do?
This is usually a conflict with another rendering mod like EMF or ETF. Disable optimization for the affected block type in the config menu, or temporarily turn off the conflicting mod to confirm which one is causing it.
Does this mod work with EMF and ETF?
It can conflict with EMF/ETF on shared block entity types, which is why per-block toggles exist. If you see visual glitches, disable optimization for the specific block type involved rather than removing either mod.
Will this mod break my existing world or block entities?
No — it only changes how block entities are rendered, not their data or behavior. Removing the mod later restores normal rendering without world damage.
How do I get a longer viewing distance for chests and signs without tanking my FPS?
Keep optimization enabled for those block types and raise your entity/block entity render distance in video settings. Because inactive block entities are rendered as meshes, the extra distance costs far less than it would without the mod.
Which block entities does Better Block Entities support?
It supports common ones like chests (including metal chests from other mods), shulker boxes, signs, decorated pots, beds, and bells, with more planned. Check the config menu for the current list on your version.
I'm not seeing an FPS boost — what should I check?
Make sure optimization is enabled for the block types actually present near you, since unsupported or disabled types won't be optimized. Also confirm no other rendering mod is overriding those block entities, as that can cancel out the gains.
